New Hampshire Boy Scout Leader Arrested Again on Sex Abuse Charges

New Hampshire law enforcement authorities have arrested a former Boy Scout leader for a second time for sexually assaulting a minor Boy Scout.

Eugene Perreault, 69, was charged with one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault and was freed on bail after being booked at the police station. Police say Perreault sexually abused a Boy Scout multiple times between 1999 and 2001, when the boy was between age 11 and 12.

Police began a wide-ranging investigation into Perrault’s time as a Scoutmaster in October after another man reported he had been sexually assaulted by his Scoutmaster when he was 11 years old.

More Boy Scout sexual abuse victims are coming forward to speak with police.

“Gene Perreault was involved in Boy Scouts in New Hampshire from late 80s up until the 2000s so that’s a pretty significant time period he would have access to Boy Scouts,” Lt. Michael Schwartz, the lead investigator in the case, said on Tuesday.

Schwartz said the Boy Scouts of America Daniel Webster Council and the New Hampshire Department of Education has been assisting investigators with records pertinent to piecing together a timeline in the cases.

Prior to his latest arrest, Perreault worked as a bus driver for special needs children. It is not clear when or why he stopped working as a Boy Scout leader. He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout councils in the towns of Epping and Newfields in New Hampshire.

Newfields Police Chief Nathan Liebenow has urged anyone with information to call police at (603) 772-9010 or report a tip anonymously to Seacoast Crime Stoppers at (603) 431-1199.

Given his long association with the Boy Scouts and the serious criminal charges pending against him, Perreault most likely abused more young children. It is imperative that anyone with information concerning him come forward and speak with police.
