California Abuse Case: Boy Scout Files Admissible

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJudge Donna Geck of Santa Barbara Superior Court has ruled that the Boy Scout files can be used in a Boy Scout sex abuse lawsuit.

According to the Huffington Post, “Prosecutors, representing the family of a man who was abused at age 13 by a Scout leader, successfully argued that the files could show the organization routinely used secrecy to handle such allegations and attempted to hide information about abusers from the parents and guardians of Scouts.”

This is a huge victory for survivors of Boy Scout sexual abuse and it mirrors the landmark decision in which we were able to successfully argue that these files are indeed admissible in court proceedings. In 2012, the Oregon Supreme Court ordered these same documents to be released in a case involving a survivor of Boy Scout sexual abuse.
